                                           Macaé River
The Macaé River springs in the Macae hills between Macae and Lumiar (Friburgo) in a place known as "Macae de cima". It falls from mountainous region emptying into the Atlantic Ocean. Most part of its waters is navigable, and it's also the main river of the city.

 

                                           Frade Peak
Frade peak is the highest point of the region, with 1,429 meters, and about 56 km from the heart of the city.  Ideal for trekking , climbing, and specialized guides can be contracted in the city.


 

                                           Imboassica Lagoon
The Imbossica Lagoon was considered a real ecologic sanctuary. Nowadays the lagoon receives  domiciliary  sewerage from the local neighbourhood. Its very nice for leisure and sport. Its area is about 5 km2 , making border with the Rio das Ostras city, and it is about 11,5 Km from downtown.

 

                                           Pecado’s Beach
Pecado's Beach is a continuation of Cavaleiros' Beach up to the Imboassica Lagoon, and the adjacent municipal of Rio das Ostras. Ideal for surfing and body boarding it is also popular  for line fishing and scuba fishing.


 

                                           Cavaleiros’ Beach
Cavaleiros' Beach is located in the borrough with the same name, besides being the "locale"of the main and traditional bars and restaurants of the city. Ideal for bathing and fishing with big rocks and waves. The summer fest (sport, dance and other competitions) takes place there, at Cavaleiros' beach.

 

                                           Campista’s Beach
This beach is along open sea and rough, although it is greatly used for fishing. Located between  Prainha do Farol and Cavaleiros' Beach, it is situated close to the urban centre.


 

                                           Prainha do Farol’s Beach
This little beach has only 120 meters of extension. When the sea is calm, it is wonderful for bathing and fishing. There, you can find the ruins of an ancient lighthouse, built in 1880, in the first years of the city´s  founding.

 

                                          Imbetiba’s Beach
Imbetiba's Beach holds the Imbetiba sea terminal, in support of the oil exploration activities on the Continental shelf. Receives treated sanitary discharge from the Parque Valentina Miranda neighbourhood and Petrobras. It's a much sought after location for jogging and walking, particularly in the mornings  and early evenings.

 

 

                                          São José do Barreto’s Beach
This beach is the prolongation of Barra's beach, and receives some dregs from Macae's river. It is one of the favorite beaches for fishermen. This beach crosses the Jurubatiba National Park.
 



                                           Jurubatiba Lagoon

This pool is one of the smallest of the 18 lagoons which integrate  Jurubatiba National Park. Its dark waters due to roots are clear and transparent. Visitation and bathing are permitted, but fishing is not.


 

                                           Sant'Anna Archipelago
The Sant'Anna Archipelago is formed by the Islands of Francês, South Ilhote and Sant' Anna, It is located about 8 Km from Municipal Market harbor and used for leisure and fishing. There colonies of seagulls live  and various bird  species come on migratory trips from North America in the winter season

 

                                           Glicério Rapids
The Rapids of Glicerio became famous from the practice of canoeing due to the presence of an old hydroelectric mill in the vicinity. The local community developed an interesting sport named "floating", which  consists of going down the rapids in buoys made from old inside tire tubing.



                                          Latiff Mussi Exhibition Park

The Exhibition Park is located in the ward of São José do Barreto, and it is considered the third best park in all the country in structure. Having 80,000 square meters and it stages events, such as  Farming, Tourism, and Industrial Exhibition of Macae (Expo Macaé) with rodeos and pop festivals of the best quality.


                                           Sant’Anna’s Church
An ancient legend tells that its main door is turned to west to impede the saint of the same name running from the altar. After  disappearing and reappearing many times, the saint disappeared in the 90's and was never  found again. The building, dates back to 1630 and is located at a point where all the city can be seen. 


                                           Monte Elísio Sollar
This solar plays an important rule in the city landscape. The manor-house was built on a little elevation in Santos Moreira Avenue. Presently, it has the Nossa Senhora da Glória Institute (castle). Its construction took place in 1852, following the neoclassic style, and inside, pay attention for old stairs made of wood with the initials of Visconde de Araujo.

                                           Town Concil
The Town Council Building is at Rui Barbosa Avenue, in the center of the city. It uses neoclassic elements and is constructed in  two added blocks. Built in the 19th century, recently it was totally restored. It can be visited from Monday to Friday during commercial hours.

 

                                           Marechal Hermes Fortrees
There's uncertainty about the real date of its construction. Some people say it was built in 1761, but others say it was built in 1725. This fortress, built to defend the Macae coast from pirates, was reformed in 1908 and inaugurated in 1910, under the name of Marechal Hermes Rodrigues da Fonseca. Visitation is permitted.
